Costa Rica Hot Springs The Ultimate in Relaxation
By Katty Beard
Famous for its thrilling white-water rafting and tree-top canopy tours, Costa Rica is also a haven for relaxation.
Costa Rica's hot springs offer the premier destination for rejuvenation! There are several Hot Springs located at Arenal Volcano, the number one tourist destination in Costa Rica. Bill Beard's will make reservations for you in one or all of them.
Nestled at the base of the Arenal Volcano (one of the few perfect cones in the world), the hot springs are a welcoming place for all ages.
The thermal waters from Arenal River flow through the gorgeous gardens and you can pick your temperature of the waterfall or pool you like from 27 º C (80.6 F,) to 42º C (107.6 F).
Upon your arrival, you will quickly marvel at the beauty that surrounds this wondrous place. Lockers and towels are available with a small, refundable deposit required. Once you have changed into your bathing attire, you can sit below the wall of water that cascades onto your shoulders. This thermal, pulsating water is sure to leave you feeling invigorated and refreshed.
The gardens surrounding the thermal pools are among the most spectacular grounds in Costa Rica. The tree and plant lined paths provide privacy to the many pools, and you can be sure to find one where the temperature is just right. Beautiful tropical plants brimming with lush colors and aromatic fragrances surround the soothing pools. As you go from pool to pool, enjoy the beauty of these plants that can only be found in these sub-tropical regions.
The best way to truly enjoy the hot springs is to sit and relax in as many pools as possible. Each pool is distinct. Many are shallow and rocky with wonderful waterfalls gushing in bringing more warm water while others look like your typical large swimming pool with smooth surfaces allowing deeper water.
The hot springs at the volcano is the perfect spot for romance and hold a special place in my heart --my husband proposed here, and I couldn't imagine a more magical place!
As you explore the hot springs you will notice the open air restaurant that serves delicious typical Costa Rican cuisine as well as a fun water slide and two bar areas. The swim-up bar is the perfect place to grab a margarita or an Imperial – one of the local beers brewed in Costa Rica.
If the hot springs aren't enough for your ultimate experience, The spas also offer full service pampering. Get a facial or a full body massages while the sounds of the rushing river delight your senses. The spas also offer manicures, pedicures, and mud wraps. The spas offers the latest in massage therapy and techniques including the Watsu massage. Please remember, these services fill up quickly so make arrangements with our agent ahead of time.
The sights and sounds of the rainforest surround you and many birds can be sighted in the trees that tower above. Eco Thermales provides changing rooms, showers, and towels. They offer typical meals that are served family style to those who request the service in advance. Down by the thermal waters there is a full service bar so you can enjoy a tropical fruit drink while relaxing in the pools.
One of our favorite spots is a virtual secret, so if you desire a more private experience, consider the lesser-known hot springs -- Eco Thermales. (see Hot Springs) This spot, known to few, provides a quiet respite and sits among stunning, peaceful gardens. Charming whimsical toadstools light the path to the thermal waters.
Mud Baths are very popular and are supposed to have healing powers. We can't vouch for that but we can tell you that when you finish you will feel rejuvenated, refreshed, unusually clean and your skin is soft to the touch. Mud baths are a simple procedure. You go in the natural sauna over the bubbling pits, let you pores open, then apply the volcanic mud all over your body and let it dry. Afterwards you rinse off in a thermal water shower and go in the hot springs of your choice or sit under a thermal water waterfall and get a natural massage. Now the decisions get tougher. Do you want to get a massage, body wrap, brush scrub, facial, manicure, pedicure or maybe go for the full body treatment? It's up to you as we offer it all.
Whichever hot springs you choose to visit – and you will probably want to see them all – you are sure to leave relaxed and rejuvenated. Pura Vida!
THERMAL POOLS are also abundant in Costa Rica and offer an adventurous way to relax! What's good for the body is good for the soul - and there is no better spot for body and soul than Buena Vista Lodge of Costa Rica, located at the foot of Rincón de la Vieja, one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes. Its chief attractions are the thermal waters, steam bath and natural spa.
On the way to the spa - whether you go by horseback or vehicle - you will enjoy magnificent views and absorb the natural beauty that surrounds Rincón de la Vieja Volcano and National Park. Buena Vista Hot Springs, located at the foot of Rincón de la Vieja
