Big Animal Scuba Diving In Warm Costa Rica - Bill Beard Costa Rica

Diving the warm Pacific waters in the Gulf of Papagayo is anything but your “average” diving. There is an enormous amount of fish activity to be found among the volcanic rock islets and undersea pinnacles off this coastline. Familiar Caribbean fish species mingle with Pacific Coast and Tropical Pacific varieties unique to the area.
Diving with a whale shark in the Pacific Ocean of Costa Rica with Bill Beard'sThe cooler nutrient-rich waters attract enormous schools of fish. Big animal encounters with large pelagics – giant Manta Rays, Eagle Rays and Bull Rays, several species of Sharks and Turtles and Whale Sharks are considered routine. Anyone who been diving in these waters would agree that the immense quantity of marine life more than outweighs the lower visibility encountered in the area, which is known for unpredictable currents and upwelling that can cause a five degrees shift in temperature in a matter of feet, as well as the ever-fascinating thermoclines on the deeper dives. In addition to more local dive sites, day trips to the Catalina and Bat Islands offer divers some extra-ordinary adventures. This is exciting diving. No matter your degree of diving proficiency when you arrive, it will be better when you leave.

Schooling fish on every dive site on Costa Rica Pacific Ocean Costa Rica with Bill Beard'sCosta Rica Dive Sites Northwest Pacific offer great diving year-round as there are no rivers draining into the ocean.  Costa Rica is widely recognized as one of the world’s most bio-diverse nations. The small country is sandwiched between two oceans and is home to a number of ecosystems. Costa Rica’s biodiversity does not end at its coastline: the country is a top dive destination, particularly  along it’s Pacific shores. Costa Rica Dive Sites in Northwest Pacific have crystalline waters and are home to a dazzling array of sea life. All of the dive sites have a tremendous amount of marine life due to the plankton and nutrients around these volcanic rock formations.

We enjoy local dive some as close as 10 minutes to the beach. We also have a mid range dive at Catalina Islands that takes about 20 minutes and long range dives to Bat Islands where Big Scare and Black Rock are located that takes about 45 minutes.

Squadron Spotted Eagle Rays In Costa RicaNo matter what adventure you crave, you’ll find it in Costa Rica — both topside and underwater. Try speeding through the rainforest canopy on a zip line or scuba diving with bull sharks. Bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea in the heart of Central America, Costa Rica is a prime ecotourism destination and boasts some of the world’s most biologically diverse habitats – including rainforest, volcano and mangrove ecosystems. While the Caribbean coast has yet to develop a serious scuba diving infrastructure, diving off the Pacific Coast is nothing short of spectacular. The underwater volcanic rock formations and pinnacles are home to small hard corals, sponges and gorgonians. Guanacaste is a giant bay off the northwest coast that provides access to Catalina and Bat Islands – key dive areas. The southern area is a protected biological reserve and offers the chance to see rays, turtles, and white-tip reef sharks. Plus, you’ll see large schools of fish swimming overhead on almost every dive. You can also get out to Cocos Island off the Pacific coast to dive with its hammerhead shark schools, whale sharks and manta rays.
