Need a Vacation? Go Where The Big Three Collide! - Bill Beard Costa Rica

Adventure, Sustainability, and Luxury In Costa Rica

Perfect vacation location for individuals, couples & families. This small property is not so good for groups since is has only 13 breathtaking units.

It can happen to all of us no matter where we are and that’s “getting into a rut”.  It’s almost impossible not to fall into this trap as we balance our daily life of work, finances and a dreaded pile of laundry.

The good news is that there’s a very simple way to change it with Bill Beard’s. Take a break and get in tune with nature while never having to hassle with the question, “What are we doing for dinner tonight?”  That answer is in Drake’s Bay, Costa Rica, Aguila de Osa in the Osa Peninsula, this is true paradise found.

The Journey
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Life is a journey, not a destination”.  And even though Ralph might have changed his statement if he’d had the pleasure of staying at Aguila de Osa, he completely captured the essence of traveling to this pristine paradise.

You reach Drake’s Bay by small plane, boat, or one rather tricky road.  However, the best and most scenic route is only a small section of the untouched Drake Bay coastline.

You can take a boat from the small riverfront town of Sierpe, which is nestled among the tributaries of the massive Sierpe River. To get there you must take a small plane into Palmar Sur, then take a taxi or van through palm oil country to the docks. Here you’ll catch a water taxi that acts as a lifeline between the village and the locals, so be prepared to get cozy with your neighbor as you cruise along the murky water and mangroves.

The journey is about an hour, but time flies as you get an informal tour as the boat snakes in and out of the river’s canals, which are lined with mangroves and the occasional crocodile on the bank soaking up the sun.

You will know the ocean and bay are close as the salt and fresh water slowly begins to fade into a crystal blue color and palm trees dominate the coastline.   As you fully emerge from the river through the troubled waters of the river and Drake Bay that opens up all around with pristine dark sand-colored beaches on the left and Isla del Caño Biological Reserve in the distance on your right, the island is world renowned for its scuba diving, sport fishing, dolphin and whale watching. You may also fly directly to Drake’s Bay and shorten the boat and car ride considerably but only if you are limited by time.

The Destination

As you approach the small coastal town nestled against the jungle and mountains of Corcovado National Park, a friendly welcoming committee will be there to greet you and give a hand with the luggage.  Here, you’ll get your first glimpse of the beautiful Aguila de Osa Inn.

As you walk up the secluded path towards the hotel, it’s clear from their excited and passionate discussion regarding the surrounding area that the hotel and bay are more than just a business endeavor; this is their home and a labor of love.

You will enjoy the best view in Drake’s Bay without getting out of bed.

It’s also evident that Aguila de Osa was built with community, sustainability, and splendor at the forefront. For starters, the location was previously uninhabited due to the steep, inhospitable jungle trail that dropped directly into the beach.  The owners have helped the Drake Bay community develop better trails by building a handmade adobe trail using mixture of clay, sand and grass to fortify the road, which allowed accessibility for everyone.

However, the real take-your-breath-away moment comes when you reach the private hilltop hotel.  Every room features an entire wall of open air windows and doors that lead to a spacious patio with the best panoramas of the sapphire bay and the surrounding treetops in Drake Bay. Plus, the simple, clean, and locally sourced teak décor along with the free flowing ocean breeze will have you instantly at ease. All the porches have hammocks and constant visits by scarlet McCaws and white faced monkeys.

Although you won’t want to leave the room, you won’t want to miss a single meal even more.  Aguila de Osa is not your typical  resort serving up boring buffet lines and disappointment.  Instead, they offer a personally tailored Costa Rican fusion menu that features three decadent meals per day that combines the foods you love and the breath taking view.
